U.S. History II Supply list is:
Plenty of pencils
One 1 ½ inch 3 ring binder with 50+ Plastic Protectors
Loose Leaf Paper
Optional items (will use these often in class):
4+ glue sticks
Crayons and/or color pencils
Pack of color paper or construction paper
2 boxes of tissues
Hand sanitizer or Wet Ones/hand wipes
4 tennis balls for chair legs
The first big challenge for our new U.S. History II students is switching gears from Science to History. Students entering our new classes will need the top 3 supplies listed above in order to be organized and ready for class each day. The pacing guide, letter to parents, and homework policy will be sent home Tuesday, February 6, 2018. I have also emailed all parents who have an email on Parent Access Center. Our new 6th grade schedule for the second semester will be extended by 3 mintues for each class. Adjustments will be made as soon as I get the final schedule from Mrs. Presson:
7:00-7:25 Homeroom; breakfast
7:25-9:00 Block 1
9:00-11:05 Block 2
(10:00-10:30 Gold Team lunch; 10:30 Teal Team lunch)
11:05-12:40 Block 3
12:45-2:00 Exploratory Classes
As we begin a new and exciting semester, students will be encouraged to learn a chant while walking down the hallway-to show that staying “tight to the right” is just a form of following school rules, but it CAN BE FUN! This chant is very similar to what many of our soldiers in training might sing during their training. We study all of U.S. involvement in wars since the Civil War. This exercise in in memory and honor for all who have served and will serve as well; let’s have fun with this Jaguars!
This was extra credit observing 9/11. This will not be assigned second semester. Don’t worry, I give many chances for extra credit throughout each 9 weeks! Students must be alert and pay attention to all extra credit that is offered.
Extra, extra read all about it! Want a little extra credit just into the first full week of school? Today, September 11th is the anniversary of a horrible event in U.S. history. Watch the first video below (History Channel) and the one that continues right after it (15 years later) and write 1 paragraph (5 or more sentences) about the event, turn it in to your history teacher tomorrow September 12th and you will receive extra credit. Note:The other two videos are good, but your computer might have a hard time with them, as mine did.

******History Alert! Parents-There is a FREE app available from Apple to help your child study for our end of nine week testing OR you can google: Pass the Past. Once you download the app, be sure to practice OUR U.S. History II-1865-Present. Be sure to let any one of us know if you have any questions!
To access our Textbook, Five Ponds Press, simply click on the link to the top right above. Choose the Textbook with Dr. King and Eleanor Roosevelt’s picture. Use: Student and History for the passwords to get in. It is case sensitive, so be sure to use a capital S for Student and a capital H for History. In order for you to access this from your phone, you will have to download Adobe Acrobat.
History Alert for February – June 2018:
Our U.S. History II classes are working on what is called a Performance Based Assessment (PBA) which will count as our end of the year test grade in June 2018. This is an IN CLASS assignment that must be completed at school. We will be using primary and secondary sources to complete research notes for your student’s PBA).
In addition, we encourage your student to visit the following sites to refresh on how to recognize the primary and secondary sources that we will provide them at school. If you should come across any of these sources as it pertains to U.S. History II 1865-Present that could be used for your student’s assessment, please feel free to send it to school. Thank you! As always, if you have any questions at all about the Performance Based Assessment, let any one of the History II teachers know. Thank you for your support with this endeavor!
